Ancient China had many geographical features that influenced the society. The features China has includes rivers, mountains and deserts. The longest river is the Yangze River, which is also the third largest in the world. The rivers provide nutrients for rice to grow and the mountains cause an almost impassable barrier for intruders to get into. Having no intruders for China means the society is independent from other nations and allows them to have their own traditions and sacred religions. The north and west of china have two of the largest deserts in the world: the Gobi and the Taklamakan desert.
The disadvantages of the geography are that since they were isolated from other nations, due to the natural barriers, it was hard for them to invent anything. This is because they had nothing to base it on because they didn't communicate to other nations. They would not be able to escape because of the geography and their limited resources. Another disadvantage is the flood of the Yellow River, even though this is also an advantage, it destroys crops if it is flood regularly.
